Curriculum Framework
Primary Curriculum Framework
The Irish Primary Curriculum Framework is a modern plan for children’s learning in primary and special schools.
Overseen by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA), it shifts the school day into five broad areas, emphasises playful and outdoor learning, and builds closer partnerships between home and school.
Seven Key Competencies
The framework helps children build life skills alongside traditional subjects:
What It Means for
Your Child
More Flexibility: Schools have flexible time frames to match children’s local needs and curiosities.
Play-based Learning: Valuing play and curiosity, especially bridging preschool (Aistear) into early primary classes.
